1) What is Debate?

Debate is the official discussion on a topic. It holds the supremacy of logics. A
debate generally has two sides : FOR & AGAINST. Both the sides try to prove
their stance & counter their respective opposition.

2) Why to Debate?

The main objective of debate is to analyse various aspects of a topic before
coming to a conclusion. Not only it enhances brain-storming but also increases
ones critical thinking.

3) What is Logic?

The arguments one presents to prove his/her stance forms logic. Argument
must have reasoning & should be supported by an example.

4) Formation of logic

To form an argument or a logic, one should start by asking general questions &
then finding their answers like:
● What to establish?
● Why to establish?
● How to establish?
One can also follow the AREA rule which is:
● A- Assumption (assume whatever you want to prove)
● R – find Reason behind what you want to prove
● E- present Example supporting your reason
● A- this way Argument gets formed.

5) Art of Rebuttal

Rebuttal is countering the proposition or argument made by your opponent. It is
basically a process of disproving your opposition. While countering the
opposition’s argument you shouldn’t be in any way contradicting your own
stance.

6) Presentation

● Start by your newest & most logical point.
● A good body language.
● Fluency. Remember not to fumble.
● A good voice modulation.

7) Difference between Public speaking & Debate

Public speaking is done basically to attract the audience. You need not even pay
any heed to the logical conclusion of a topic.
Debate always holds the supremacy of logics. It should not contain any form of
rhetorical lines.

9) Role of Adjudicator & Fair Adjudication

Adjudicator is a logical person, who without any discrimination, gives his/her
decision after properly listening a debate. Adjudicator always holds rationality &
logics above emotions in any debate.
● A fair adjudication is one which only considers established arguments.
● Examples should not be considered as logics during a debate. Example
are just a support to the argument.
